Huawei Mate 9 to be launched without Leica-branded camera?
The Leica branding is missing from the latest leaked images of the upcoming smartphone.
Huawei will reveal the Mate 9 and Mate 9 Pro smartphones in Munich on November 3, 2016. Now, two days before the official unveiling of Huawei’s new smartphone, two new sets of leaked images have surfaced.
One set of leaks features high resolution photos of the upcoming smartphone with a dual-camera setup by Leica. Separately, Italian website Mobilissimo revealed another set of images which show a gold coloured Mate 9. Interestingly, the Leica branding is omitted from the device in these images. Previous renders of the Mate 9 had always featured the Leica branding around its primary camera. The omission seems odd, considering Leica’s association with the Mate 9 would obviously lend more credibility to Huawei's flagship device.
The Mate 9 has been the subject of a number of leaks over the past few months. In October 2016, noted leakster Evan Blass also known as @evleaks stated that the new device will have a 5.9-inch 1920×1080 display, powered by the recently launched Kirin 960 SoC with 4GB RAM. The storage options on the smartphone might range from 64GB to 256GB. He also added that the standard Mate 9 will sport a Full HD flat screen display, while the Mate 9 Pro may have a QHD curved screen display.
The new phone is also tipped to run on Android Nougat with EMUI 5.0, and may support Daydream VR. Other features on the device include a Home button with fingerprint sensor, USB-C port and 3.5mm headphone jack. The phones may also feature 4x optical zoom, and the top-end variant might be priced at $1,300 (approx. Rs. 86,900).
