Huawei will launch its Mate 20 Pro smartphone in India today. Huawei’s flagship phone was announced last month, alongside the Mate 20, Mate 20 X and the Porsche Design Huawei Mate 20 RS. However, it seems like the smartphone manufacturer has decided to introduce only the Mate 20 Pro in India, since the handset is listed on the company’s website. There are rumours of the Mate 20 RS will also be coming to India this time, but nothing is confirmed as of now. Same as the Huawei P20 Pro (review), the Mate 20 Pro carries over the triple rear cameras and adds more functionality to it. Here are five things to know about the smartphone and do read till the end to know about the phone’s expected pricing and how to watch the live stream of today’s event.

Triple Rear-Camera Setup

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro (first-impressions) comes equipped with a triple 40MP + 20MP + 8MP sensor configuration, in which the sensors are placed in a square setup. The 40MP sensor is paired with a 27mm wide lens with f/1.8 aperture, while the 12MP sensor gets a 16mm ultra-wide lens with f/2.2 aperture. The 8MP sensor is paired with a 3X 80mm telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture. The device’s camera supports Artificial Image Stabilisation (AIS), along with varying focal range from 16mm with ultra wide angle, 80 mm with 3x optical zoom, 135mm with 5x Hybrid zoom to 270 mm with 10x digital zoom. On the front, the smartphone comes equipped with a 24MP RGB sensor inside the notch.

A Processor With 7nm Architecture and Dual NPU

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 980, which snagged the title of being the first commercial chip based on the 7nm fabrication process. The SoC features Cortex-A76 based CPU and improving over its predecessor, comes with Dual-NPU. It uses Mali-G76 GPU for rendering graphics and other computations. The chip features 6.9 billion transistors and also supports LPDDR4X memory that is clocked at 2133MHz.

Display And Design

The Mate 20 Pro features a 6.39-inch 2K+ Curved OLED HDR display with a 19.5:9 display aspect ratio. The device also features a notch on top of its display that houses the front camera and sensors for better face recognition. These sensors include a dot projector, an IR camera, a flood illuminator, and the proximity and ambient light sensor. They enable 3D Face Unlock on the device and also enable 3D object scanning using which, one can scan an object to creates its 3D model in the virtual world. The phone will also use 3D Modeling Calorie Calculation to count calories of the food using food recognition and volume measurement.

The Mate 20 Pro features a curved design that makes the sides narrower. This is said to make the phone easier to hold. The phone also comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor that uses Dynamic Pressure Sensing, which is said to enable a better phone unlocking experience. The device’s unlock speed is also said to have increased by 30 percent over the last generation of the in-display fingerprint sensor.

Wireless Charging And Reverse Wireless Charging

Huawei was late to the party when it introduced wireless charging with the Mate 20 Pro. However, one can say it arrived fashionably late since, as a world's-first, the device can also charge other devices and accessories using reverse wireless charging. The device also packs a large 4200mAh battery under the hood that supports the company’s 40W SuperCharge technology and 15W fast wireless charging technology.

Huawei claims that a 30-minute 15W wireless charging session on the Mate 20 Pro can fill the battery to 31 percent mark. The company’s own wireless charger is developed according to the Qi standard for universal compatibility and it is said to adjust output power automatically to safely charge different hardware like smartphones, earphones and smartwatches that support wireless charging tech.
