Huawei has rolled out an OTA (over the air) update that brings ViLTE support and the February Android security patch 2019. This is a phased roll out and the build is 158MB in size. Those who didn’t get the notification can go to Settings, and then to “Software Update” to check if they have received the update. Reportedly, it will be made available to a bunch of users and then will be rolled out to remaining users in a “couple of weeks”.

The primary use of the ViLTE (video calling over LTE) feature is the ability to make video calls to other users without using third-party video calling apps such as Skype, WhatsApp, among others, however, the use of this technology is limited to the network carrier’s support. Google introduced this feature back in 2017 with Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL phone launch. Now, there are a number of phones in the Indian market that have this support.

Digit can confirm that the feature is supported on Jio. To make a ViLTE call, both the parties should have a Jio network connection, a phone with ViLTE support and the Jio 4G Voice app installed on the device. Interestingly, you can either use the Jio dialer or the default app to make a video call.

Further, the February Android security patch fixes critical bugs and improves the performance and stability of the devices. According to the changelog, there were 15 issues that were resolved in the patch, and there were no reports of customers being affected. “The most severe of these issues is a critical security vulnerability in Framework that could allow a remote attacker using a specially crafted PNG file to execute arbitrary code within the context of a privileged process,” the company had said.

The update comes as the Chinese tech giant is preparing to launch the next phone in the P-Series. Huawei is expected to launch the P30 and P30 Pro on March 26 in Paris. A few photos and videos have officially been shared on several social media platforms in India as well as in China. Though the phone is expected to be a photography-oriented device, it is suggested that it will have some audio-related technology for better output.

In the camera department, Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei's Consumer Business Group, has already confirmed the presence of a quad-camera setup on the phone, and the top variant of the Huawei P30 will feature a periscope-style zoom camera for “super-zoom” capabilities. In an 8-second video posted on Facebook, the company highlighted a 32MP front camera and a waterdrop notch.
