Huawei has launched a new entry-level dual-SIM Android smartphone in India, the Ascend Y210D, running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm Cortex A5 processor. It has been priced at Rs. 4,999, and is available online and other major retailers in India, in two colours – white and black.
Anand Narang, Marketing Director, Huawei Device India, introduced the device, saying: “To enable internet access for millions of Indian youth, we wanted to offer a compelling mid-range smartphone proposition at an entry level price. Huawei Ascend Y210D offers a bigger 3.5-inch screen, faster 1GHz processor, dual SIM for managing voice & internet connections and best-in-class battery life. Ascend Y210D will help us put a no-compromise first smartphone into the hands of millions of younger Indians in smaller towns & cities.”
Other specifications of the Huawei Ascend Y210D include a 3.5 inch (480×320 pixel) display, 256MB of RAM, 512MB of storage, 2MP CMOS rear camera, microSD card slot, and a 1700 mAh battery. Huawei’s Power Saving technology will apparently deliver 30 percent better battery life. The dual-SIM capabilities are GSM-GSM, with one slot supporting 3G.
The Huawei Ascend Y210D will be entering a very competitive budget Android smartphone market, competing against a variety of Indian and international brands. The company’s strategy to target the device as the ‘first smartphone’ for the youth in smaller towns & cities seems like a good idea, looking at the specifications.
