HTC unveils Desire U budget ICS phone with 4-inch display

HTC has unveiled the Desire U in Taiwan. The device boasts of a 4-inch display, runs Android 4.0 ICS and is priced at 7990 New Taiwan Dollar (approx. $274 or Rs. 14,750).

HTC has introduced another Android-based smartphone called Desire U. Slated for the Taiwan market, the new HTC smartphone is priced at 7990 New Taiwan Dollars (approx. $274 or Rs. 14,750). Details regarding the availability of the smartphone in other parts of the world are yet unknown. However, we expect the device to hit the Indian market later this year.

In terms of its specifications, the Desire U has a 4-inch display with a resolution of 480×800 pixels. Under the hood, it has a 1GHz processor (details unknown), along with 512MB of RAM. It has 4GB built-in storage, expandable up to 32GB via a microSD card.

The rear of the smartphone has a 5MP camera with an LED flash and the Desire U compromises on a front facing camera. It runs on Android 4.0 ICS straight out of the box and there is no information on whether the device will be upgradable to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The OS is skinned with the HTC Sense UI.

In terms of connectivity options, the Desire U boasts of 3G, Wi-Fi 820.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 with aptX, GPS. It also houses a 1650mAh battery. The phone is 9.32mm thin and weighs a mere 119 grams.

The look of the Desire U is very reminiscent to the HTC Desire C, which we recently reviewed. The Desire C runs on Android 4.0.3 with HTC Sense, has a 600MHz processor with 512MB of RAM. The display is 3.5-inches with a 480 x 320 pixels resolution. It has a 5MP rear-facing camera. The built-in storage is 4GB expandable up to 32GB via microSD card. It has a 1230mAh battery. HTC Desire U

A unique thing about the Desire U is that it has a circular textured design surrounding the camera that gives it a unique look. From the face, you can easily mistake this phone for any other 4-inch HTC device running ICS.
