HTC has annoucned that it will be hosting an event on August 30, just a day ahead of IFA 2018. The company made the anoucnement via a tweet, which hinted at the launch of a U series smartphone, which is expected to be the HTC U12 Life. The smartphone was leaked last month and rumours suggest that it could be priced around $349 (Rs 24,400 approx). The upcoming device is rumoured to be a mid-range smartphone with the codename “Imagine Life”. It is tipped to feature dual-rear cameras and come with an 18:9 display sans a notch.
In terms of specification, the HTC U12 Life is said to feature a 6-inch FHD+ display with a 2160 x 1080p and could be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 Octa-Core processor, coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. There’s also a possibility of a more powerful variant of the smartphone with additional RAM and storage. The handset could be powered by a 3600mAh battery, feature a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and come with dual-SIM support.
In terms of optics, the device might come equipped with a dual 16MP+5MP camera with Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF), and support for 4K video recording. On the front, it is tipped to feature a 13MP sensor with dedicated flash and beauty mode. The smartphone is expected to launch with Android 8.1 Oreo.
Even though HTC is still releasing smartphones, it seems that the company has hit a rough patch as an earlier report suggested that it is wrapping up its operations in India. The company is said to have less than 1 percent share in India but is not looking to completely cease operations in Indian as it plans to sell virtual reality devices online, while the remainder of its business in the country will be controlled from Taiwan.
HTC Desire 12 and Desire 12+ were the last smartphones by the company to be made available in India. The two smartphones come in Cool Black and Warm Silver colour variants. The HTC Desire 12 costs Rs 15,800, while the HTC Desire 12 Plus is priced at Rs 19,790. Both the smartphones feature an 18:9 display aspect ratio and are equipped with an acrylic glass rear panel. However, only the HTC Desire 12 Plus features a dual-rear camera setup and a fingerprint scanner as the HTC Desire 12 comes with a single rear camera and no fingerprint sensor. The Taiwan based smartphone manufacturer is also planning to soon launch a new blockchain-based smartphone called ‘Exodus’, which is said to be the “world’s first major blockchain phone.” HTC says that the phone will be revealed sometime in Q3, 2018 and ahead of the launch, the company has teamed up with a blockchain-based title called CryptoKitties, which is the “world’s biggest game to be built on blockchain technology.” Exodus is said to be “The first cold wallet phone with key recovery” and HTC has promised to share some more information on the blockchain phone in the coming months.
