HTC smartwatch not cancelled, to be released in early 2015: Reports
HIGHLIGHTS

HTC hasn't shelved plans to launch a smartwatch of its own, and is expected to be released by early 2015, says a CNET report.

It was recently rumoured that HTC had abandoned plans to launch a smartwatch. However, CNET reports that the Taiwanese smartphone maker is still working on the wearable device and is likely to launch it in early 2015.

According to CNET, HTC aims to develop a smartwatch that stands out from the crowd. Citing sources familiar with HTC plans, the CNET report further states the smartphone will have “elements of design and features” that will attract more consumers.

If the report is to be believed, HTC will be among a late entrant into the smartwatch market, which is already getting crowded. The likes of LG, Sony, Samsung and Motorola have already announced their smartwatches, while the recently introduced Apple Watch will be hitting the market early next year. Currently, all the companies are working to deliver a product that stands out from the rest.

HTC is known for products that have good design and focus on ease of use. Despite being a late entrant, HTC may come up with a product that addresses a range of complaints about smartwatches such as bulkiness and battery life.

The latest information comes at a time HTC is gearing up for an October 8 event. The company has already sent out invitations to the press with a message stating “Double Exposure”, hinting at a camera-centric announcement.
