HTC could also unveil update to its virtual reality platform

HTC has started sending media invites for an event on January 12, where the company is expected to announce its next smartphone. The invite doesn't reveal much but reads "For U." The event is being held right after CES but a month ahead of Mobile World Congress, which gives the Taiwanese company a head start in the year.

HTC has been rumoured to be working on its next flagship smartphone dubbed HTC 11 but the event could witness the launch of mid-range X10 smartphone. HTC has managed to keep things under wrap but if rumours are anything to go by, the smartphone is likely to launch with a 5.5-inch full HD display. HTC X10 is expected to house a 2GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor coupled with 3GB RAM.

HTC X10 is also expected to rock a 13MP main camera with optical image stabilisation. However, a recent report claimed that HTC is working on the successor to HTC 10 with Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. The device is said to pack 8GB RAM and 256GB inbuilt storage. The smartphone is expected to feature a 5.5-inch Quad HD display with Sense UI 8 based on Android 7.1 Nougat.

HTC 11 is rumoured to come with a beefy 3700mAh battery and sport dual rear camera setup. HTC had launched M8 back in 2014 with dual rear cameras and it shouldn't come as a surprise. The device is expected to be priced at $691 (approximately Rs 47,000). HTC has been expanding its Vive virtual reality platform lately and the company is expected to showcase updated VR technology at the event.
