HTC believes its superphones have Samsung worried
HTC clearly is confident that the new range of Android superphones will change its fortunes. So much so, the President of the North Asian Division believes Samsung is "worried". We can only hope HTC prices its phones more responsibly in the future!
There was a time when HTC used to be the go-to brand as far as Android phones were concerned. And not without strong credentials – it made the first and the second Android phones. By the time most of the current rivals came into the picture, HTC was far ahead, both in terms of the offerings and also with the experience of making phones with Google’s smartphone operating system.
However, a couple of generation of phones later, HTC is playing catch-up to the very aggressive Samsung Mobile. The South Korean giant is leading the pack with the Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II. But, if we are to believe the Taiwanese smartphone maker, HTC is still very confident about its standing in the market.
Talking to reporters a few days back, HTC North Asia President Jack Tong said that the success of the Butterfly smartphone, Samsung has been making “fewer moves”, in order to see what HTC is going to offer next. “This means HTC has the ability to make Samsung worried”, Tong said.
In all honesty, we really cannot disagree with HTC’s claims. In a market as volatile as this, from being the leader to being nowhere does not take more than a couple of years, and Samsung would do well to not underestimate any rivals. We are not very sure if HTC can dislodge Samsung from the top step of the Android ecosystem anytime soon, but Samsung can surely take a couple of pointers from HTC about how phones are built and designed. Alternatively, HTC could learn how to smartly price their phones, to make them enticing options for the potential consumer.
