Honor Play, Honor 9i with GPU Turbo technology launched in China

Honor has launched two new phones Honor Play and Honor 9i with GPU Turbo technology in China. While Honor Play is a gaming-centric device, Honor 9i is the company’s first mid-segment device with GPU turbo.

Honor has launched its gaming-centric phone Honor Play with its newly-unveiled GPU Turbo technology which, with hardware-software integration, is claimed to provide users a smooth and faster mobile experience by dramatically increasing the graphics processing efficiency. Honor Play is joined by Honor 9i, which is the reportedly the first mid-priced device by the Chinese smartphone-maker to incorporate the GPU Turbo technology. The Honor 9i (2018) is different from the one that was launched in India last year.

Honor Play

The Honor Play has a notched 6.3-inch IPS LCD full HD+ display with an 89 percent screen-to-body ratio. On the hardware front, the phone has a 10nm Kirin 970 processor with a dedicated Neural-Network Processing Unit (NPU) to power the AI features and an option of choosing from 4GB or 6GB RAM variants. Both the variants come with 64GB on-board memory.

When it comes to camera, the phone has a dual primary camera setup at the back comprising of 16-megapixel and 2-megapixel units with Dual AF and Artificial Intelligence (AI) scene recognition. As far as the front shooter is concerned, the phone houses a 16-megapixel lens with AI portrait feature and 3D portrait lighting support.

The device also gets a 3,750mAh battery and runs Android Oreo 8.1-based EMUI 8.2.

The Honor Play will be available in Aurora Blue, Black, Violet, Black and Red colours at a starting price of 1,999 yuan (approximately Rs 21,000) from June 11 in China. 

Honor 9i

The Honor 9i gets a 5.84-inch display with full HD+ resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio. It also sports a notch and is powered by an octa-core Kirin 659 processor. Users will have an option of choosing from three variants: 4GB RAM + 32GB ROM, 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM, and 4GB RAM + 128GB ROM.

While, the dual camera setup at the back has 13-megapixel + 2-megapixel sensors, the front camera has 16-megapixel lens with AI features. The phone houses a 3,000mAh battery.

The Honor 9i has been launched in Charm Blue, Dream Purple and Magic Night Black colours for a starting price of 1,399 yuan (approximately Rs 14,500). It will be available from June 7 in the country.
