Honor 8 will not be updated to Android Oreo

Replying to a user query, Honor’s Indian Twitter account stated that the update will not be coming to the Honor 8 due to “hardware and software limitations”

It seems like Honor’s older flagship smartphone, the Honor 8, will not be updated to Android Oreo. The announcement was made from the company's Indian Twitter account as a response to a user query, which asked why the Honor 8 was still stuck on EMUI 5. Honor didn’t reveal any specific reason as to why the update wasn’t being rolled out. Only that there are hardware and software limitations, which prevent the update from being rolled out. 

It should be noted that the company recently announced that it was going to start rolling out the Android Oreo-based EMUI 8.0 update for the Honor 8 Pro, Honor 9i, Honor 7x and even the Honor 8 Lite smartphones. Honor says the the update brings with it AI-features such as object recognition, smart tips, and an AI Accelerated Translator.

To recall, the Honor 8 was launched in India in 2016, after launching in China earlier that year. The phone was launched with EMUI 4.1, which is based on Android Marshmallow. Other features of the phone include a 5.2-inch Full HD display and is powered by a 2.3GHz octa-core Kirin 950 SoC with 4GB of RAM. The phone sports a dual-camera setup at the with with two 12MP cameras. The device is equipped with a 3000mAh battery and offers  32GB of onboard storage, that can be expanded by up to 128GB.

Honor recently launched its current flagship smartphone, the View 10 in India. The device features a 5.9-inch Full HD display with an 18:9 display aspect ratio. It is powered by a Kirin 970 chipset with 6GB of RAM. The phone is equipped with a 3750mAH battery and offers 128GB of onboard storage that can be expanded by up to 256GB via a microSD card. Like all current generation Honor smartphones, the View 10 sports a dual-camera setup at the back consisting of 16MP + 20MP cameras.
