HMD Global, the Nokia brand licensee, has launched the Nokia 5.1 (Nokia 5 2018) and Nokia 2.1 (Nokia 2 2018) in India for Rs 14,499 and Rs 6,999, respectively. The Nokia 5.1 is an Android Oreo bearing smartphone, also enrolled in Google’s Android One Program for faster OS updates. Meanwhile, the Nokia 2.1 is HMD Global’s second Android Oreo (Go Edition) smartphone after the Nokia 1, launched at MWC this year. Alongside the launch of the Nokia 5.1 and Nokia 2.1, HMD Global has also announced a 3GB RAM variant of the Nokia 3.1 in the country. Let’s take a look at the specifications of all the phones.
The new Nokia 5.1 features upgrades over its predecessor and now comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD+ 18:9 display with a 1080 x 2160p resolution. The display of the phone is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The smartphone is powered by an octa-core MediaTek MT6755S SoC, paired with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. The phone’s frame is milled from a single block of 6000-series anodized aluminium and the device features a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner to accommodate the taller display.
In terms of optics, the Nokia 5.1 is equipped with a 16MP single rear camera, which supports Phase detection AF and is supplemented with a dual-tone flash. On the front is an 8MP wide-angle camera for selfies. The smartphone features a 3,000mAh battery under the hood.
In terms of connectivity options, the Nokia 5.1 features 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, GLONASS, Micro-USB and a 3.5mm headphones jack.
The phone is priced at Rs 14,499 in India. It will be available starting August 12 in Copper, Tempered Blue, and Black. Those interested can purchase the Nokia 5.1 from mobile retailers offline, or online through Paytm Mall and Nokia's online store.
HMD Global’s second Android Oreo (Go Edition) smartphone comes in the form of the Nokia 2.1. The company claims that the Nokia 2.1 sports a 50 percent performance gain over its predecessor with 20 percent extended screen real estate. The device is powered by the Snapdragon 425 SoC and features a 5.5-inch HD 16:9 display. There are also two front firing speakers on the top and bottom bezels, which are said to deliver stereo sound effect. The smartphone is equipped with basic 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage (expandable to 128GB). The handset boasts of a two-day battery life, thanks to the 4000mAh battery and features an 8MP rear camera with autofocus, along with a 5MP front-facing sensor. The handset will be available from August 12 at Rs 6,999 in Blue/Copper, Blue/Silver and Grey/Silver colour models. Again, it can be purchased from mobile retailers offline, or online through Paytm Mall and Nokia's online store.
The Nokia 3.1 already launched in India last month, and now the company has introduced a 3GB RAM variant of the device. The device features a dual anodised diamond cut design and comes with a 5.2-inch HD+ IPS display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The display also gets Corning Gorilla Glass protection. For performance, the Nokia 3.1 utilises a MediaTek 6750 Octa-core chipset, where four cores are clocked at 1.5GHz and the rest of the cores are set at lower speeds for saving power.
In the camera department, the Nokia 3.1 comes with a 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and LED flash. Upfront is an 8MP wide-angle camera. The device is backed by a 2990mAh battery and akin to its predecessor, it misses out on a fingerprint scanner.
The 3GB RAM version of the Nokia 3.1 will be available for Rs 11,999 and it will go on sale alongside the Nokia 5.1 and Nokia 2.1 starting August 12.
On all three phones, a 10 percent cashback will be available with Paytm recharges and bill payments by scanning the Paytm Mall QR code at retail stores. There is also a 5 percent cashback available for ICICI Bank debit/credit card holders on the Nokia 5.1 and Nokia 3.1.
