Hello! Microsoft is adding fingerprint support to Windows 10 Mobile
Windows Hello didn't work, huh?
Microsoft is finally planning to add support for fingerprint readers in Windows 10 Mobile. During its Windows Hardware Engineering Community (WinHEC) conference, the company revealed that it would be adding support for the feature this summer. Currently no Windows Phone devices offer a fingerprint reader except for the HP Elite x3. Microsoft also noted that the fingerprint reader could either be built into the device, or be attached as a peripheral.
While Apple and Google have already added support for fingerprint readers, Microsoft opted for iris recognition with Windows Hello. Microsoft’s flagship phones, Lumia 950, and 950XL feature iris scanners, while the HP Elite x3 sports an iris scanner and a fingerprint reader.
Microsoft is also planning to release a big update for Windows 10 called the Anniversary Update. One of the features that will be included with the update allows users to unlock their PC by tapping on their Windows Hello-enabled smartphone. In addition, Windows Hello will be integrated with the Microsoft Edge browser to offer biometric access to supported websites. The Anniversary Update is scheduled to start rolling out this summer and will bring a number of new features and improvements.
