Google is planning multiple Android Wear updates before end of this year.

Google has confirmed releasing frequent updates to its Android Wear platform, adopted by the likes of Asus, Motorola and LG.

In an interview with CNET, Director of Engineering for Android Wear David Singleton said the future updates will bring the ability for Android Wear-based devices to support pairing with Bluetooth headsets. Soon, Android Wear will get GPS support, but will be available for devices that have the GPS hardware. According to Singleton, another important update will be allowing third parties to develop watch faces, and provide them through Google Play store.

Singleton further added that Android One will receive “several” updates before the end of the year, starting from this week. The first update will focus on improving the navigation experience alongside some “voice action experience”.

When asked about why do people need wearables, Singleton responded, “…  So, being able to have the fitness tracking that I might get from a little band, as well as being able to stay up to date with what's going on with people who I'm not with right now, through email or SMS or notifications — when I take it off, I really miss it”.

Companies such as Samsung and LG have moved aggressively into the wearables market. While LG unveiled a round watch with plastic OLED, Samsung announced a Tizen OS-based Gear S smartwatch with a curved AMOLED display.

It's notable Apple is also likely to showcase its smartwatch, dubbed as the iWatch, at its September 9 event.
