Google to reveal Android N’s new name soon
What are the odds on Android Neyyappam?
Google has announced that it will be releasing the official name of its upcoming mobile operating system in the coming weeks. Earlier this year, Google had asked attendees of its developer conference, Google I/O, to help name the latest version of their OS. The latest naming will fall in line with the jovial note of naming that Android operating systems go through, every year, spurring multiple debates of opinion worldwide.
Android N, the seventh major iteration of Google’s mobile operating system, had its first beta release in March, with a reworked settings menu providing more information and a Split View mode similar to what we have already seen on the Apple iPads, which is expected to improve multitasking on mobile devices. The first beta also came with a feature called Direct Reply, which lets users reply directly from the notifications panel. Further updates to the beta version also added support for Vulcan, an open graphics interface. Many smaller features like Night Mode and App Shortcuts have also been added to Android N.
Thanks for your submissions. We’ll reveal the new name in a few weeks! #NameAndroidNhttps://t.co/qLtDZJNe9y

While Google seems to be making considerable progress with the latest version of Android, one major concern for Google is the slow adoption rate of newer OS versions. As of now, Android Marshmallow (v6 and above) has only recently crossed 10pc adoption rate, nearly eight months after its launch. Premium, new devices are being launched with Android Marshmallow, but some budget devices are still being introduced with Android Lollipop, and many older devices are still powered by older Android versions like KitKat. Google is looking to be more stringent about OEMs providing more relevant Android updates, but has a number of practical hurdles owing to the large variety of devices and prolonged, expensive testing processes involved before providing the updates.
Nevertheless, Android N has all of us eager to see the OS develop steadily, and its naming will be a matter of interest for many. Would it end up being Android Neyyappam? You can never say no, but…
