The initial Oreo roll out updated the compatible devices with the August security patch. Many users are confused as the latest update seems to display incorrect numbering.
Google has started rolling out software OTA’s for the Pixel and Nexus devices to upgrade them to the latest September Android security patch. Android Police reported that although Google claimed that many compatible devices will start receiving the September security patch with the Android Oreo update, multiple users reported that they were still stuck with the August security patch. Seems like Google has quietly started rolling out the latest September security patch to all compatible devices.
Reports state that the latest OTA updates have been confirmed by Verizon users and Verizon itself has posted information stating the update’s build number in the US. The security patch level is said to be dated September 1. Many other non-Verizon Pixel and Nexus users in the US and UK have also reported receiving the September Android security patch OTA update.
There is, however, some confusion regarding the naming of updates. It was reported that the received OTA is titled Android 7.1.2 in the notifications drawer, however, after updating, the devices depict Android 8.0 Oreo as the Android version in settings, with the latest September security patch.
Android Oreo was officially released last week and is available for Google’s Pixel and select Nexus handsets. Android Oreo brings a host of new features such as Picture In Picture mode, snooze notifications, revamped settings and much more.
