Google has just announced an event for October 29 in New York. So obviously, our first instinct was to try and predict what Google’s going to impress us all with at this event. We say impress because we still haven’t forgotten the antics Google engaged in to reveal their Glasses, which involved skydiving, base jumping, repelling and some extreme biking. So let’s take a look at all the goodness that has turned up so far.
First off, there is the next flagship Nexus phone. We all know it’s out there, being made by LG thanks to some early leaks. However, there is word around the circuit that there may be as many as five Nexus Phones this time around, being made by several manufacturers. There was even a leaked photo of a Nexus phone with Sony branding, but we’re not really sure how credible that was, or whether it was as finished a product as the LG Mako (The LG made Nexus). We absolutely love the current Nexus phone, and if that has become the benchmark for Google’s homebrewed devices, then we would absolutely love five more Nexus phones!
Next up, are rumours on the tablet-front. The Nexus 7, which has pretty much become the gold standard for 7-inch slates, might be coming out with a 32GB variant. Did you just gasp loud? No? Well, here is something that will make you gasp out in loud disbelief. The 32GB variant of the Nexus 7 will probably be priced the same as the current Nexus 7 that is on store shelves. This, of course, is based on some early leaks on vendor sites, but it is very much possible that Google might revise the pricing.
Regardless, the possibility in itself is quite exciting. Then we also heard that there might be a premium 10.1-inch Nexus tablet in the works made by everyone’s favorite Korean outfit, Samsung. Not a whole lot of details about this one, but we can definitely expect it to match up to the competition. And speaking of competition, there is a wild rumour of a $99 Nexus tablet as well, but we wouldn’t bet our money on this last one.
And finally, word is that all new Nexus devices being launched will also include Android’s next OS, dubbed Key Lime Pie. So we’re hoping that at the October 29th event, we’ll get to witness what Google has to offer in its next OS. While we do appreciate and look forward to seeing the new OS in action, we can’t help but wonder if this would be the right time to announce a new OS, given that most Android devices are still running Gingerbread, a three-generation old OS.
At the end of the day, all we can do is speculate and try and fit pieces together, but the puzzle includes pieces we have not yet witnessed. The only way to actually know what Google’s got in store for us is to either break into their facilities and steal the presentation plans, or just simply wait for October 29.
