Google released its Pixel 9 lineup back in August 2024 and it included four phones- Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Now, a couple of months after that, the company is gearing up to extend the lineup with an “a” variant smartphone, which is the watered-down version of the flagship lineup. The Google Pixel 9a is expected this month, earlier than usual as the tech giant typically unveils ‘a’ series devices at Google I/O in May. However, if reports are to be believed, Google can unveil the device on March 26.
Fresh renders, leaked by Evan Blass, showcase a new purple colour variant, named Iris, alongside black, off-white, and coral options. The design appears similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy S25 series, with smoother edges and curves. In addition to this, a standout design feature is expected to be the minimal camera bump, a departure from the bar-style module seen on previous Pixel models. This subtle bump is likely due to the Pixel 9a’s thicker body, which could house a larger battery and internal camera sensors.
In addition to this, the Pixel 9a is expected to pack a 6.28-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 2,700 nits peak brightness. It can run on the in-house Tensor G4 chipset, paired with 8GB LPDDR5X RAM and 128GB/256GB UFS 3.1 storage. It will likely ship with Android 15 and offer seven years of software and security updates.
For cameras, the Pixel 9a can get a 48-megapixel primary sensor, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 13-megapixel front camera. Lastly, it can also pack a 5,100mAh battery.
The Pixel 9a is rumoured to start at €499 which translates to approximately Rs 46,000 for 128GB storage, while the 256GB variant may cost €599 (approx. Rs 55,000).
