According to GSMA, the Best Smartphone award “combines outstanding performance, innovation and leadership as determined through assessment of smartphones on the market during the period January 2023 to December 2023, by world leading independent analysts, journalists and influencers.”

For those who are unaware, Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro won the “Best Smartphone” title in 2023, following the victory of the iPhone 13 Pro Max in the preceding year. Prior to that, in 2021, the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra secured the top spot. However, this year marks a significant milestone as Google won the title for the first time with the Pixel 8 series.

It’s worth noting that the Google Pixel 6 Pro was a contender in 2021, while the innovative Night Sight feature of the Google Pixel 3 earned recognition with a GSMA award for “Disruptive Device Innovation” back in 2019.
