What happens when someone forgets a phone in a cab? Well, the usual routine is for the cab driver to try and contact the customer who left the device behind. In this case though, a Lyft cab driver in the US got his hands on the unreleased Google Pixel 3 XL, which he found in the backseat of his cab after dropping off some passengers. The driver of the cab decided to grab some quick hands-on photos of the Pixel 3 XL unit and share them with Android Police before he returned the device back to the passenger who had forgotten it.
At first, the cabbie mistook the forgotten Pixel 3 XL unit for his own Pixel 2 XL, but he realised that the phone was indeed the unreleased Pixel 3 XL after spotting the display notch and the Google logo at the back. Here are some snaps of the pre-production Pixel 3 XL unit that the cab driver managed to click before returning it to its original owner.
This isn’t the first time Google's flagship smartphones for 2018 have been spotted in the wild. Details about the upcoming Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL leak almost on a daily basis. We have even seen the Pixel 3 XL getting unboxed on video as well as some larger leaks that go as far as revealing some camera samples of the device. There is no clarity on how Google’s Pixel 3 XL units got outed before the phone’s official release, but it has already gone on sale in the black market for as much as $2000, reportedly resulting in the launch an internal investigation by Google and manufacturer Foxconn.
The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL have also reportedly passed through NCC certification, hinting that the launch of the devices is imminent. Google is expected to unveil the two phones on October 9 this year. While the NCC listing does not give away any specs of the phones, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are expected to sport the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC.
The Google Pixel 3 XL will be the larger of the two devices and is expected to feature a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a 1440x2960px resolution. The display of the phone will house a notch which will encapsulate a dual camera setup. The phone might come with 4GB RAM, a 3,430mAh battery, and Android 9 Pie onboard. As spotted in leaks, there is a single camera on the back. The Pixel 3 on the other hand might feature a smaller 5.4-inch AMOLED display sans a notch. It is said that the Pixel 3 will also feature a dual front camera setup to improve selfie capture.
