HIGHLIGHTS

We expect the Google Pixel 3 to be unveiled at a media event in New York City on October 9.

Almost all there is to be rumoured and discussed about the upcoming flagship smartphone from Google has already been done and dusted. All that’s left now is to sit tight and wait for Google to actually launch the product. Today, we hear news from Bloomberg that Google is planning to do just that at a media event in New York City on October 9. Google is expected to unveil the third generation of Pixel smartphones, the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL.

A launch date of October 9 is a slight deviation from the usual date of October 4 for Google; the company unveiled the previous two Pixel models on October 4. Just when fans (us included) were expecting a hat-trick, Google switched it up. Oh, and that’s not all—Google launched the previous two Pixel smartphones in San Francisco. This year it’s moved it farther away from its headquarters, all the way to New York.

We’ve seen and heard enough about the upcoming Pixel phones to say that we definitely expect them to ship with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset under the hood, along with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. In fact, the chipset on the Pixel was seen scoring upwards of 8,000 on a Geekbench page recently. We also expect them to run Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box.

While we expect the design of the Pixel phones to remain largely the same as last year model’s, we believe Google will include a dual-camera setup in the front this time around to take ‘Super Selfies’ and improve security for face unlocks. The custom of having one powerful camera (instead of the increasingly common two) at the back is said to remain unchanged on the upcoming Pixel smartphones.
