Google opens Project Fi mobile networks to all US consumers
HIGHLIGHTS

Earlier, Project Fi was only available via an invite and is only compatible with the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, and Nexus 6P

Google Project Fi mobile network is now available to all subscribers in the US. Up until now, the service was only available to those who had received an invite. Project Fi is only compatible with the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, and Nexus 6P smartphones and Google is offering the Nexus 5X at a promotional price of $199 (approx. Rs. 13,400). In a post on its official blog, Simon Arscott, Product Manager for Project Fi said, “Today, we’re excited to be exiting our invitation-only mode and opening up Project Fi so that people across the U.S. can now sign up for service without having to wait in-line for an invite.”

Project Fi automatically switches between Wi-Fi hotspots and cellular data based on which is faster at any particular time. Google has partnered with Sprint and T-Mobile networks for cellular data. Subscription plans start at $20 (approx Rs. 1,300) and then charges $10 for each GB of data. Google also refunds customers for any unused data. So for instance if a user has signed up for a 3GB plan, but only uses 2GB, the remaining $10 worth of data for the remaining 1GB is credited in the user’s next bill.
