Google Nexus 4 goes out of stock in a matter of minutes

Google’s fourth flagship smartphone, the Nexus 4 went out of stock in a matter of minutes after being launched on the Google Play store.

Google opened its online hardware Play store to sell the Nexus 4 in select countries like the US, UK, Canada, Australia and Germany, and the smartphone was out of stock in a matter of minutes after its launch yesterday.

The 16GB Nexus 4 was sold out in a mere 22 minutes in the Australian Google Play store, whereas the 8GB variant of the smartphone barely lasted for 2 hours. The 32GB Nexus 10 tablet too went out of stock in about five hours where as the 16GB variant is still available.

Countries such as the UK, France, Germany, and Spain also saw similar demand for the smartphone where it was sold out in 35 minutes.

The US and Canada got the device last on Tuesday, and the Nexus 4 was sold out in 20 minutes of its availability.

The official Nexus Google page says:

“There’s been so much interest for the Nexus lineup that we’ve sold out of some of our initial stock in a few countries! We are working hard to add more Nexus devices to Google Play in the coming weeks to keep up with the high demand. You can learn more about Nexus devices and stay updated at play.google.com/nexus.

We’ve also begun rolling out Android 4.2, JellyBean, to Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7 devices, via an over-the-air update. Check out what’s new here: android.com/whatsnew ”

What remains to be seen is whether the fast sell out was due to a low availability of initial stock or the fact that Google’s Nexus 4 is a really hot deal and consumers know an awesome product when they see one. These questions will be answered when Google releases sales figures of the Nexus 4.

All was not well for the shoppers who went online to pick up the Nexus devices. A lot of consumers from many of the countries faced a variety of problems such as transaction errors, and multiple tries before an order could get processed. Some consumers even complained that their credit card got charged but the order wasn’t placed.

Unfortunately, Google doesn’t have an online hardware Play store active in India and those of you interested in picking up either the Nexus 4 or the Nexus 10 right now, will have to resort to online vendors such as ebay.in or other third party sellers.

The Nexus 4 16GB is available for preorder on ebay.in for Rs. 26,950. There is no word on the official launch price of the smartphone in India but we suspect that at launch it will be priced close to Rs. 30,000. It is expected to be launched in India by late November, according to an LG spokesperson.
