The Pixel 9 series can use the same ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.
After the wrap of the Pixel 8 series with the recent Pixel 8a launch, Google is all set to unveil its successor- the Pixel 9 series. The tech giant has confirmed that its smartphone lineup will drop earlier than expected this year, on August 13th. Ahead of the launch, as is the tradition, rumours, and leaks have started to do rounds on the internet.
With the new launch, we are obviously expecting certain big enhancements and updates. The Google Pixel 9 series might also go a notch up with its fingerprint sensor. If a report by Android Authority is to be believed, the upcoming Pixel series might feature an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. Previously, Google used optical sensors in models like the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.

The report further suggests that all three smartphones in the lineup- the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and the new Pixel 9 Pro XL will include the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. The Pixel Fold 2 is also expected this time, however it might not feature the ultrasonic sensor. Instead, we might get to see a capacitive fingerprint sensor integrated into the home button.
The Pixel 9 series can use the same ultrasonic fingerprint sensor that has been used for the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, the Qualcomm 3D Sonic Gen 2 (QFS4008). It is pretty fast, smooth, and reliable which was an issue with the previous Pixel generations. Earlier, Google used to use sensors made by Goodix.

Well, obviously, this is not the only upgrade that we might get to see on the Pixel 9 series. We also hear that this time we might get to see a fresh pink colour with the Pixel 9 series, as revealed in recent hands-on videos. A lot is expected from the Pixel 9 series, and I hope that it delivers.
