Google Maps app on iOS updated for supporting iPhone X’s taller display

The updated Google Maps app for the iPhone X is now displayed taking the smartphone’s Face ID notch and taller display into consideration.

Google has finally started rolling out the updated Google Maps app for the Apple iPhone X. The app is now displayed taking the smartphone’s taller display and notch into consideration.The app’s user interface remains the same, but with the search bar now sitting higher on the display and the direction and information icons have shifted even lower, near the bottom. As the layout is left unchanged, it is now a bit difficult to reach the hamburger menu on the left corner under one-handed operation. 

Google has been steadily updating its apps for supporting the taller display and notch on the iPhone X. Google apps like Docs, Sheets, YouTube, Keep, and Slides have already been updated but many other such as Drive, Photos, Calendar, Chrome, Gmail, Google Search, and Gboard are yet to be updated. The updated app arrives nearly a month after the iPhone X was launched. 

The iPhone X is Apple's first smartphone to come with an edge-to-edge bezel-less display. It sports a 5.8-inch Super Retina Display with 2436 x 1125p resolution. It is powered by a new hexa-core A11 Bionic processor, which features a neural engine and enables the working of the new Face ID feature. The smartphone comes with a 12MP rear dual camera setup with OIS and sports a 7MP TrueDepth front-facing camera with support for portrait mode.
