Google extends software support for Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel Fold to five years, adding two extra years of updates.

The Pixel 6, 7 series, and Fold will now receive Android 17 and Android 18 updates.

Google has stated that the Pixel 6, Pixel 7 series, and Pixel Fold will now get five years of software updates. This comes after the company has silently updated the support page to confirm the development. Till now, the company only promised three years of OS upgrades with the above-listed smartphones.

For the unversed, the Android 15 was the last major update for the Pixel 6 series but now, these devices are eligible for getting the Android 17 and Android 18. The Pixel 7 series Pixel 7 series and Pixel Fold will also be getting Android 17 and Android 18 after they roll out.

What it means to the users?

This software extension for Pixel 6, 7 series, and Fold will add two additional years of software updates, helping the users to stay up-to-date with the latest features and security improvements.

The change means that the above-mentioned devices will get five years of software support, which includes OS updates and security patches as well as Pixel Drops for new and upgraded features.

Interestingly, the company made the changes after rolling out the Android 16 Developer Preview for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series, announcing that these devices will not go out of support.

For those unaware, the Pixel 8 series comes with seven years of software support, and the Pixel 9 series is expected to get the same years of software support.

Meanwhile, Android 16 is expected to come earlier than the usual Android rollout timeline. As per Google, the Android 16 will launch in Q2 2025. The tech fans can expect a beta release between January and April. However, we will have to wait for the official roll out and the timeline announcement.
