Gionee has launched its first Make in India smartphone, the Gionee F103 in an event at Vizag. The smartphone has been launched in partnership with Foxconn. The event was attended by Arvind Vohra, Gionee India CEO and MD, William Lu, President, Gionee and N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Gionee has already sold more than 4 million devices in India and is aiming to double the sales in 2015-2016 with the support from its India manufacturing.
The Gionee F103 sports a 5-inch HD IPS display with Dragontrail. It is powered by a quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz along with 2GB of RAM. The phone has an 8MP rear camera with flash and 5MP front camera. It is 4G LTE compatible and offers 16GB of internal storage. The whole package is powered by a 2400mAh battery. The smartphone runs on Amigo 3.0 OS based on Android Lollipop v5.0.

Gionee had announced its plans for making phones in India last month. The company had partnered with Foxconn and Dixon Technologies for the same. As per the announcement, Foxconn would be making its F and P series smartphones, while Dixon would be making the other devices including the feature phones. The company also has plans of investing $50 million (approx. Rs. 300 crore) in India over a period of next three years. Additionally, Gionee is also planning to increase the investment in its R&D department for making its Amigo UI better for the Indian market. Other than Gionee, there are various other companies like Huawei, Sony, Xiaomi, Motorola and Lenovo who have shown interest in the Make in India initiative.
