Gauss AI: Samsung’s own ChatGPT alternative will power S24 Ultra’s Generative AI features

Generative AI is getting all the attention and more from big tech brands. And now, South Korean company Samsung has also entered the chat by introducing its own generative AI model called the ‘Samsung Gauss’. The Samsung Gauss was unveiled during the Samsung AI Forum 2023 event that was hosted at the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology R&D campus. Let’s find out more about it.

Additionally, Samsung’s new AI model is also expected to be featured in the upcoming Galaxy S24 series. According to Samsung’s executives, by 2024 Samsung is going to incorporate generative AI into core features of its mobile. This most likely will happen with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series and the ones that come after it.

Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series is already highly anticipated and if Samsung introduces AI to it before the launch, then the product could get a big selling point. If instead of relying on cloud-powered large language models and running some generative AI android image and language models locally then it could become a huge thing.

What can the Samsung Gauss do?

The Samsung Gauss comprises of three things: 

Samsung Gauss majorly offers these three things: Samsung Gauss Language, Samsung Gauss Code, and Samsung Gauss Image. Let’s take a look at each of these.

1. Samsung Gauss Language: This model will understand and process human language and then generate answers for users. Much like say a ChatGPT. You can compose emails, edit, summarise documents, etc with it. This will also help you by offering smart device control when applied to products. Plus it works on both cloud servers as well as your phones, PCs, etc.

2. Samsung Gauss Code: This will specifically interest the coders out there. This one specialises in code languages and also comes with an assistant called code. This will be used internally by Samsung as well for quick and easy software development through an interactive interface.

3. Samsung Gauss Image: With this, you will be able to create and edit any image easily. With a small text prompt, you can generate a whole new image. You can even change the style of an image, convert low-resolution images to high-resolution images, and add things to an existing image.

When will the Samsung Gauss be released?

The Samsung Gauss is currently being used internally by Samsung employees. However, it is working steadily to roll it out soon. If things go as planned, then it will soon be available to the general public most probably with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, which is expected to release next year in January.
