Galaxy S8, S8+ October security update breaks fast charging for some users
HIGHLIGHTS

Many users have complained that their Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones are taking anywhere between 4 to 6 hours to fully charge since being updated with the patch

The October security patch for Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones seems to have broken the fast charging feature on the devices. According to a report by SamMobile, quite a few users have complained that their Galaxy S8 and/or S8+ devices take anywhere between 4 to 6 hours to fully charge since being updated with the patch. Many users have expressed their frustrations on Twitter and Samsung community forums.

As per the Galaxy S8 and S8+ user complaints on the above mentioned online platforms, the issue is almost confirmed to be software oriented. Some users reportedly tried charging their device with another Samsung original charger with the Fast Charging option enabled in settings but to no avail. It’s not known yet if the currently rolling out November security update patch fixes the issue or not.

The latest November security update for the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ is reportedly rolling out in Netherlands currently and will see a broader rollout soon. It brings improvements to both the smartphone’s Bluetooth connectivity and fixes the Wi-Fi KRACK exploit. The OTA update weighs about 545 MB in size and carries the build number G950FXXU1AQK7. Users can check if the update is available for their device in Software Update tab under settings.

Samsung recently started rolling out the third Android 8.0 Oreo beta update for the Samsung Galaxy S8 (review) and the S8 Plus (review) beta testers in the UK. The Oreo update comes with the November security patch as well. The update will reportedly soon roll out for users in the US and South Korea shortly. The beta version is 623 MB in size and comes with many bug fixes and stability updates.
