Samsung has started rolling out the first software update for the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. The update is similar to the one released for the Galaxy Note 5, since both the devices have identical specifications. Galaxy S6 Edge Plus users in India have started receiving the update with build number G928GDDU2AOJ5. It is 138.14MB in size is the same one that was rolled out for the Galaxy Note 5 last week. S6 Edge Plus owners in Europe have been apparently receiving the update over the last few days. As per the listed details, the security and the call stability of the device have been improved. Changes in the security policy means that users will not be able to revert to an older software version. The patch also optimises the battery usage. The update adds an App Optimization section in the battery menu, which is allegedly a modified version of the Smart Manager feature. The patch might not therefore effect any actual changes in the battery life of the device. Smart Manager allowed background apps to be killed after 10 minutes of inactivity to save battery.
Samsung launched the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus in August in India. It was followed by the Galaxy Note 5 in September. The S6 Edge Plus features a doubly curved 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with WQHD resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. Powering the device is an Exynos 7420 octa-core CPU, a Mali-T760MP8 GPU and 4GB of RAM. It comes with a 16MP primary camera, a 5MP front camera and also features a fingerprint scanner among a host of other sensors. The S6 Edge Plus packs in a 3,000mAh battery and is available in 32GB and 64GB variants. The Galaxy Note 5 has exactly the same specifications with added stylus support. Both the devices ship out with Android Lollipop v5.1.1.
The update is expected to be available in more regions soon, although, S6 Edge Plus users bound to a carrier have to wait longer. While there is no word on when the Marshmallow update will hit Samsung devices, the S6 series and the Note 5 are expected to be the first ones to receive it.
