The Global Mobile Awards took place at MWC 2013 in Barcelona. The winners have been announced from a long list of participants for a large array of categories.

The ‘Best Mobile Enabled Consumer Electronics Device’ award went to Samsung Electronics for Samsung Galaxy Camera. The Android-based digital camera was apparently chosen because it showed a great integration between two devices types. The Galaxy Camera is a point and shoot camera running a smartphone OS, coupled with the ability to house a SIM card, enabling users to share their photos instantly after clicking them. The ‘Best Mobile App for Consumers’ went to Facebook. This might be a no-brainer, as people across the world like to stay connected to their friends and family on the go. The ‘Best Mobile App for Enterprise’ went to Evernote, the note-taking and archiving service.
The ‘Best Smartphone’ award goes to the Samsung Galaxy S III. The S III is arguably one of the best Android experiences on a smartphone. Not only does the smartphone run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean but it also has the TouchWiz UI, which is one of the better skins available in the market. The S III also comes with a slew of Samsung specific apps such as S Voice, S Notes Smart Stay and more distinguishing the device from the plethora of premium smartphones out there. The ‘Best Feature Phone’ award went to the Nokia Asha 305. The Asha 305 is a dual-SIM phone. The SIM cards are hot-swappable with Nokia’s Easy Swap feature, meaning that you don’t need to switch off the device or remove the back cover to insert the SIM cards. The phone also boasts of a 3-inch touch screen but it is resistive in nature. The Asha 305 has built-in storage of just 10MB but it is expandable via a microSD card up to 32 GB. The device has a 2MP rear snapper and weighs a mere 98.3 grams. The budget phone also has the new Nokia swipe user interface, a browser that boasts of cloud acceleration and 40 free EA games including the likes of Tetris, Bejeweled, Need for Speed: The Run, FIFA 12 and more.
The ‘Best Mobile Tablet’ award was given to Google and Asus for the Nexus 7. It can be argued that there is no experience like a raw Android experience and coupled with the right hardware and price point – making a lethal combination. The ‘Best Application using Network APIs’ award was presented to Bharti Airtel Limited for its ‘my airtel’ app. With the app, subscribers of any service provider can keep a tab on outstanding bills, lodge complaints, activate/deactivate services, raise requests/complaints, make payment for Airtel services, and much more.
