Samsung has expanded Galaxy Gear compatibility to six Galaxy smartphones in India through a software update. The update availability will vary for each device. The Galaxy Gear compatibility software is already available for Galaxy S4 users, and now it is being rolled out for the Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S4 mini, Galaxy Mega 5.8 and Galaxy S4 zoom devices through separate software updates.
“The Galaxy Gear is designed and optimized for use with other Galaxy devices to create a seamless experience for our users. Extending the Galaxy Gear compatibility to six Galaxy devices reflects our commitment to delivering more Samsung smartphone users with enhanced flexibility and freedom, thus enriching their mobile experience,” says Vineet Taneja, Country Head, Mobiles at Samsung Electronics.
The Samsung Gear is available in the Indian market for Rs. 22,990/-, while the Galaxy Smartphones (Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy Mega 5.8, Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4 zoom, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3) are priced between Rs. 23,500/- to Rs 49,900/-.
Launched in September this year, the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch features a 1.63-inch Super AMOLED screen, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB internal storage and a 1.9 MP camera. The device comes with a “Smart Relay” feature that enables connection between the Galaxy Gear and other Galaxy devices. The Gear works with other Galaxy devices, such as Note 3 and Note 10.1, to make/ receive calls and will show notifications from social media apps.
