Galaxy AI coming to older Samsung flagships: Would you still buy the Galaxy S24?

Samsung launched the Galaxy S24 series last month along with the Galaxy AI. It was the limelight of Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked 2024 event. The Samsung Galaxy S24 was said to be all about AI, however, seems like it is not the only one to feature the Galaxy AI. Older Samsung flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S23 series, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, and more are going to have the Galaxy AI soon.

On Samsung UK’s website, some of last year’s devices are listed, saying “coming soon” for Galaxy AI. This was spotted by an X (formerly Twitter) user named Mishaal Rahman. In an X post, he showed the comparison of the Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S23, where it was revealed that the latter will soon feature the Galaxy AI.

Here are some of the "Galaxy AI" features coming to older Galaxy devices, according to @SamsungUK:

These include:

* Circle to Search
* Live Translate
* Note Assist
* Photo Assist

Unfortunately, not all Galaxy AI features will come to the older devices, but the major ones will. Here is a list of AI features and Samsung devices.

Old Samsung flagships and Galaxy AI features

Samsung will soon roll out the Galaxy AI features to the older high-end devices. The devices are the Samsung Galaxy S23, Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, and even the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9.

Now what features? Let me tell you.

• Circle to Search: This AI feature should be on this list. The Circle to Search is the biggest of them all. It can help you find anything you see on your smartphone but just circling or highlighting it. This can be activated by holding the home button > circle the object and voila!
• Live Translate: This feature could help in situations where you are talking to a foreigner on a call and don’t know their language. It provides real-time voice translation during calls.
• Note Assist: This is a Samsung Notes feature. It includes automatic formatting, summarisation, translation, and more.
• Photo Assist: This helps you in editing the pictures. With the help of Photo Assist, you can resize, reframe, and even move objects in the pictures. Furthermore, it also helps in enhancing the picture quality and colours by providing smart edit suggestions.

So, these are the Galaxy AI features expected to arrive soon on older Samsung flagship devices. Yet, there are some more Galaxy AI features not included for these devices. Samsung also notes that Galaxy AI is free for users until the end of 2025, after which charges may apply.

Which one to buy now: Samsung Galaxy S23 or Galaxy S24?

Now the bigger question is why would you buy the Samsung Galaxy S24? The Galaxy S23 series and Galaxy S24 series both have a big difference in their pricing. Before this news, it made sense to buy the latest Samsung Galaxy S24 for its AI features. However, if we are getting all the major Galaxy AI features in the Samsung Galaxy S23, I won’t spend more on the Samsung Galaxy S24. The vanilla Samsung Galaxy S24 is available on Samsung’s website at a price of ₹79,999. On the other hand, the predecessor Samsung Galaxy S23 is available at a starting price of ₹69,999.
