Flipkart’s delivery boy arrested for stealing 12 iPhones: Reports
The accused, B Naveen, would reportedly replace the phones with fake ones, and then return them back to the warehouse
A 21-year-old delivery boy for Flipkart was reportedly arrested in Chennai for stealing 12 iPhones from the company. According to The New Indian Express, the accused, B Naveen would place orders using fake addresses in the area he delivered in. After receiving the package, he would then replace the phone with a fake phone and return the package to the warehouse claiming that the device was returned by unsatisfied customers. The report also notes that Naveen was doing this for over a month and was caught when Flipkart noticed the unusually large number of product returns originating from the same area.
Naveen was arrested on Sunday and the police said that he indulged in the the activity in order to settle debts. He was also the delivery-in-charge for the area for the past six months. An investigating officer told The New Indian Express, “First, he ordered one phone using a fake address and replaced it with a phone, a china model he bought from Ritchie street and sent it back to the warehouse saying that it was returned by customer. As he didn’t get caught, he followed it up twice by ordering in bulk.” The phones were recovered by the police and the total value of the stolen devices is reportedly over Rs. 5,00,000.
