Flipkart removes Moto G from listings, paves way for Moto G2
The Moto G2 and Moto X+1, which are expected on the company's event on September 5. This could mean that the Moto G has gone out of production forever.
The Motorola Moto G smartphone seems to have bid its final adieu to us. Flipkart, which was the exclusive seller of the smartphone, seems to have taken the device off its listings. A search on Flipkart for the Moto G returns results about cases for the device and the Moto X and Moto E smartphones. In addition, Flipkart had earlier put up a banner informing users that the ‘last stock’ of the 16 GB Moto G had been put up for sale. The 8 GB variant of the device had been out of stock for a while.
This is not surprising though. The removal of the Moto G paved the way for its upgraded version, which Motorola is expected to launch on September 5 (Friday). The company has already sent out invites to the media announcing an event in Delhi. It is expected to announce both the upgraded versions to the Moto G and Moto X — Moto G2 and Moto X+1.
While Motorola hasn’t made an official announcement yet, the fact that Flipkart has taken off the listing could mean that the Moto G has gone out of production. This would make sense, since the G2 should be replacing the Moto G at the same price point that the latter was launched at. Another reason for the speculation is that the G2 is expected to be a small upgrade to the Moto G, which means that it wouldn’t be able to justify a higher price. Also, the company has big plans for this half of the year as rumours have suggested that Motorola is going to launch a total of nine devices in the next four months. The company has also scheduled an event in Mumbai for September 10.
It is important to note that while the Moto G may not be produced anymore, it doesn’t mean that Motorola won’t provide support for the smartphone. The company has already confirmed Android L updates for both the Moto X and Moto G, which means that both the devices would continue to receive support from Motorola.
