You can now buy your groceries via Flipkart, if you happen to live in Bengaluru. The Indian e-commerce giant has come up with a new app called ‘Flipkart Nearby’, through which you can buy groceries as well as personal care and grooming products, from nearby stores. Currently, the app works only in select neighbourhoods of the city — Banashankari, Bellandur, Bommanahalli, BTM Layout, Domlur, Ejipura, HSR Layout, Indiranagar, Jayanagar, JP Nagar, Koramangala, Marathahalli, Tavarekere and Ulsoor.
Apart from groceries, the app also offers branded foods, beverages, dairy products, household supplies, personal care, medicines and baby care products. Everything is neatly arranged in categories, where you can browse through them or search for a product directly, and select whatever you want. Once you are done, place the order and it will be delivered to your place, within an hour. The app takes orders 24×7, but deliveries are made between 10am to 8pm. Also, only Cash on Delivery payment method is available.
Flipkart Nearby is a hyperlocal app, meaning that Flipkart has partnered with local stores. When you place an order, the nearest partner store will be able to fulfill your order. This way, the order takes less time to be delivered, and you can be assured that you get fresh products. This new app will be going against other hyperlocal app-based services such as PepperTap, Grofers, and the likes. Services like PepperTap are rampant in this segment, and has started services in multiple cities across the country. PepperTap also received Series B round of funding of about $36 million (approx Rs. 237 crores) recently.
Currently, the app is only available for Android users. The service does not have a web-based counterpart. Flipkart has said that it will be adding more locations soon. It is also expected to join other services in this segment, and make its services available countrywide.
