Starting from February 19, Facebook will automatically start deleting live broadcast recordings that are 30 days old. Recordings older than 30 days will not be saved on the platform unless a user purposely saves them. Users must download their videos before the deadline or share them as 90-second Reels to prevent permanent deletion.
Meta explained the change by saying that most interaction and live video views occur within the first few weeks. To optimise storage and enhance user experience, Facebook is aligning its video storage policies with industry standards going forward.
What happens to old videos?
If you have live videos on your feed that are older than 30 days, they will be gradually removed in the coming months. Before this happens, users will be promptly notified. Users will receive email and app notifications before deletion, with a 90-day window to save their content.
Can you extend the deadline?
You can even extend the deletion deadline if you want so. Facebook will also offer a postpone request option. This will allow users to delay deletion for six months. This can be done by opening the deletion notification, selecting “Learn More”, and choosing “Postpone”.
How to save your live videos
If you wish to save your live videos, here’s how you can do it:
- Go to the Activity Log and search for “Your live videos”
- Then go to the Videos or Live tab on your profile, Page, or Meta Business Suite
- Once you find the desired live videos, transfer these files directly to Dropbox or Google Drive
