Facebook partners with RCom and Airtel to launch discounted Messenger plans

Airtel and RCom to bring special Facebook Messenger plans in India.

Facebook has partnered with 18 telecom operators in 14 countries including India to offer free or discounted access to its Facebook Messenger app on various platforms. In India, Reliance and Airtel have partnered with the social networking giant, and are expected their plans soon.

“Messaging on Facebook lets people connect with friends and contacts on the go, regardless of what device they are using. Three out of every four people on Facebook send a message on the platform each month, making messaging one of the most popular activities on Facebook,” said the social networking giant in a post.

“…Facebook messaging and chat can be accessed from more than 6,000 mobile phones via Facebook Messenger, Facebook for iOS and Android, Facebook for Every Phone, m.facebook.com and across other devices with Facebook integration.”

Facebook in an announcement also said its feature phone app, Facebook for Every Phone, has been optimised for chat.

Prior to the Facebook announcement, Airtel had announced free access to Facebook mobile app till February 15 with up to 500MB data usage. Read more about Airtel’s free Facebook plan here.

Reliance had also launched a Facebook Messenger plan, which included unlimited usage of Facebook Messenger at a monthly rental of Rs. 16, without paying any extra data consumption charges. Read more about the Reliance offer here.
