Exclusive: Energizer’s India phone launch plans delayed, will finally enter market end of July
The launch of Energizer's portfolio of rugged and entry-level smartphones in India has been postponed due to the delay in BIS certification. Energizer phones were set to launch in India in May.
Energizer, the company that came out with the massive 16,000mAh phone at MWC this year was expected to bring its lineup of battery-centric phones to India this month. However, sources inside the company told us that the phones are yet to receive BIS certification and as a result, the launch has been postponed.
Earlier, we reported that the company that popularly manufactures disposable battereis will be launching around eight to ten phones in India, every two to three months, starting May 2018. The portfolio for India includes its ‘Hardcase’ lineup of rugged phones, ‘Energy’ lineup of 2G/4G feature phones and the mid-range Power Max lineup.
However, since the company is still awaiting the BIS certification, the phones will be delayed in India. Currently, the company is looking at a end-July 2018 launch timeline. Earlier, Energizer had mentioned the ‘Hardcase’ series will be the first to hit the Indian market followed by the other phones.
Having said that, the 16000mAh phone which the company marketed as the ‘most powerful phone at MWC’ will not be a part of the Indian portfolio. Instead, Energizer will launch the Powermax P490S which is an entry-level smartphone powered by a MediaTek 6739 chipset and a 4,500mAh battery, apart from the Hardcase H590S which has a rugged body and mid-range specs, and the Energy lineup which include ‘splash-proof’ and dust-resistant feature phones.
BIS certification helps in providing guarantees of quality, safety and reliability of products. The Government of India has made it mandatory for products like consumer electronics to get the BIS certification.
