Essential Phone could soon launch in India as an Amazon exclusive smartphone at Rs 24,999: Report

The recently launched “Halo Gray” variant of the Essential Phone, which comes pre-installed with the Alexa-app, is reported to launch in India by March/April.

Andy Rubin’s Essential Phone might soon be launching in India as an Amazon Exclusive smartphone. As per a rumour from Techpp, It could be launched in India in the coming months, somewhere between late March or early April as Essential has extra stock of the device which it wants to clear before starting work on its successor. 

As the company wants to clear stocks, the Essential Phone is expected to receive a substantial discount as well and could cost around Rs 24,999 in India. It’s speculated that Amazon will be listing the recently launched “Halo Gray” variant of the Essential Phone in India, which comes pre-installed with the Alexa-app and costs $449 (Rs 29,000 approx) in the US.

The Essential Phone features a notch on the display, which is somewhat similar to the iPhone X but only houses the front facing camera. Coming to the specifications, the smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and 4GB RAM coupled with 128GB of internal storage. It features a 5.71-inch IPS LCD display with 1312 x 2560p resolution and comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top. 

It features a 13MP dual rear camera with f/1.9 aperture lens, an LED flash and supports PDAF and LDAF. The Essential Phone sports an 8MP front facing sensor with f/2.20 fixed hyperfocal lens. It runs on Android 7.1 Nougat with a planned upgrade to Android 8.1 Oreo. The IP54 water and dust resistant device sports a rear placed fingerprint sensor and is backed by a 3040 mAh battery with fast charging support via a USB Type-C port. In terms of connectivity, it supports Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi, NFC, GPS and LTE.
