Durability tests of iPhone 15 Pro: Does Titanium really prove its strength?
While the previous iPhone 14 Pro models use stainless steel, the newer iPhone 15 Pro models employ titanium for the side frame and an aluminum mid-frame.
The iPhone 15 Pro performed worse than the 14 Pro in extreme drop tests.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max failed the bend test.
Apple’s latest iPhone 15 series became available for everyone to buy last week. This year, the two big things everyone is talking about are that these new iPhones come with a USB-C port, and a material called Titanium is used as a built material on the iPhone 15 Pro models instead of Stainless Steel. Titanium is just as strong but much lighter, so it affects how the phones feel and handle. Some tests have been done to see how tough these Titanium iPhones are, and the results were surprising.
AppleTrack conducted one of the initial durability tests, putting the iPhone 15 Pro against the iPhone 14 Pro for comparison, reports Android Authority.
When the two phones were dropped, the Stainless Steel iPhone 14 Pro got a scuff mark, whereas the Titanium iPhone 15 Pro only had a minor blemish that could be easily wiped away. However, with additional drops, both phones ended up sustaining damage.

When dropped on their backs, the iPhone 15 Pro experienced its glass cracking first. It’s worth noting that both iPhones have the same type of back glass, but the 15 series has slightly curved edges instead of the sharp edges on the 14 series.
Similarly, when dropped on the front, the iPhone 15 Pro was the first to have its display cracked. As the tests became progressively more challenging, the newer iPhone 15 Pro continued to experience more damage, while the iPhone 14 Pro survived better and didn’t crack as easily.
The iPhone 15 Pro’s camera lens completely broke down by the end of the tests, though to be fair, the iPhone 14 Pro also experienced significant damage.

Zac from JerryRigEverything also conducted his series of durability tests on the iPhone 15 Pro Max, with a cameo appearance from the iPhone 15 Pro.
Zac did confirm that the titanium used in the iPhone 15 Pro models’ exterior frame is real and of high-quality. Although the display performs well in the flame test, the iPhone 15 Pro Max surprised everyone by shattering its back when bent at a moderate angle. This makes it the first iPhone in a long time to fail Zac’s durability test.
The fact that the smaller iPhone 15 Pro passed the same tests without breaking or cracking only adds to how unexpected this is.
“As a disclaimer, these aren’t lab-controlled tests, so your mileage may vary. These tests represent some extremities, though we’d still recommend using a case with the iPhone 15 Pro Max,” the report said.
