There are quite a few dual-core Android smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S II and HTC Sensation XE in India. Sony recently joined the dual-core race with the launch of its first self-branded smartphone in India, Sony Xperia S. And now Sony has come up with another dual-core Android smartphone, Xperia U. The device, which is now available for pre-order on online shopping sites such as Flipkart and Letsbuy, has been priced competitively at Rs. 16,499.
The Sony Xperia U was unveiled at the MWC 2012 event along with the Xperia P. The Xperia U runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS (promised to receive the Android 4.0 ICS upgrade in the second quarter of 2012) and is powered by a NovaThor 1GHz dual-core processor. It also features a 3.5-inch (480×854) Reality display, 512MB of RAM, a 5MP camera with 720p HD video recording, VGA front camera. It has 8GB built-in storage (up to 4GB user-accessible memory) but no microSD card slot.
The Sony device also features a Sony’s xLOUD surround technology, stereo FM radio, GPS and A-GPS connectivity, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with DLNA and hotspot functionality, microUSB 2.0, and 1,320 mAh battery with 260 hours of standby time, 6 hours and 36 minutes of talk-time, and 45 hours of music play.
Besides impressive specifications, the Xperia U comes with great looks. It has ambient illumination of the transparent element design that changes the colour of the phone. With the illumination scheme, the colour changes with the colours of the UI theme, the album art of the song playing, and the selected photo in the gallery.
With a price tag below Rs. 20,000, the Sony Xperia U seems to be a pretty good deal. The dual-core goodness just sweetens the deal. Only down side of the device appears to be is the absence of the slot for a microSD card and that it houses just 8GB of storage (up to 4GB user-accessible memory).
