DataWind to launch low-cost phones with free Internet next week
DataWind will be reportedly launching sub-3k Android phones with free Internet connectivity. An official announcement is expected to be made next week.
DataWind is holding an event next week in Delhi. According to reports, the company will be launching an entry-level smartphone bundled with free Internet connectivity.
According to an Indian Express report, the smartphone comes with 4-inch display, 1.2GHz processor, Android KitKat and 3G connectivity. DataWind will be launching a 2G device as well. However, the main highlight of the phone is DataWind's data compression feature allowing free Internet connectivity on low end devices. The company will be revealing its telecom partner at the forthcoming event as well. DataWind is likely to price the devices between Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 2,000.
DataWind's press invite for the upcoming event hints that the new announcements will be in line with the government's Digital India vision. It says: “It is my proud privilege to invite you to join us at the launch of yet another revolution. A revolution that will connect and empower a billion Indians, helping fulfill the grand vision of a Digital India.”
“On the occasion Datawind will also announce their partnership with one of India’s top wireless network operators and about DataWind’s efforts towards Make in India.”
DataWind, the maker of Aakash tablet, is among top tablet vendors in India. The company has continued to focus on the entry-level segments. It recently launched UbiSlate 10Ci, 3G10 10.1-inch low-cost tablets.
