Datawind partners with Telenor to offer 1-year free internet browsing

The free internet offering is available with all of the Datawind devices in any of the Telenor circles.

Datawind has partnered with telecom operator Telenor to offer free unlimited internet browsing for a period of one year. The offer can be availed on any of the Datawind’s devices in any circle where Telenor operates. At the moment, Telenor provides services in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Bihar & Jharkhand, UP (East), UP (West), Telangana and Andhra Pradesh circles.

Datawind CEO and President, Suneet Singh Tuli, told PTI,  "This is a very exciting development for Datawind. We are making the Internet more easily accessible to millions of people across the country like never before." The company also has a similar partnership with Reliance Communications. It was announced by the company earlier this year when it launched three Android smartphones – PocketSurfer 2G4, 3G4, and 3G5, starting at Rs. 1,999.

The company is known for manufacturing low-price internet-enabled devices like its PocketSurfer range of smartphones, Ubislate tablets, and Ubisurfer netbooks. Datawind has also manufactured the low-cost tablet, Aakash, for the Indian government's initiative. The Aakash 4, also known as Ubislate 7CZ, is the current iteration of the budget device. It is priced at Rs. 5,999, and runs on a 1.2 GHz Cortex A7 dual-core chipset coupled with 512MB of RAM. The tablet sports a 7-inch display and offers 4GB of internal storage (expandable up to 32GB). It has a 2MP rear camera, VGA front camera and runs on Android JellyBean v4.2.2.

Recently, the company has also announced that it had delivered on the promise for ‘Make in India' campaign by shipping 80,000 smartphones and tablets. The shipment was made from company’s production facility in Amritsar, Punjab.
