Coolpad launches selfie-centric Mega 2.5D smartphone in India for Rs. 6,999

Coolpad has launched a budget friendly smartphone called the Mega 2.5D for Rs. 6,999 in India. The phone features an 8MP front-facing camera and is aimed at the selfie enthusiast. In terms of design, the phone looks quite similar to most phones in the sub-10K category offering a full metal finish. The Coolpad Mega 2.5D will be available via Amazon India and the sale of the phone will start from August 24.

The Coolpad Mega 2.5D is powered by a quad-core 1GHz MediaTek MT6735P SoC, This is a low powered version of the MediaTek MT6735 SoC, which powers the Coolpad Note 3 Lite. The Mega 2.5D features 3GB of RAM and there is 16GB of internal storage. The storage can be further expanded as upto 32GB of microSD cards are supported. However, Coolpad has emphasised more on the display of the device. The phone features a 5.5-inch 2.5D curved glass display, which has more than 70% of screen to body ratio.

The other big feature of this smartphone is the 8MP selfie camera. The front facing camera has a 83.6 degree field of view for those wide group selfies. To enhance selfies, beautification features are also incorporated in the camera app itself. At the back, the device sports an 8MP camera and uses a Sony sensor. There is a relatively small 2500mAh battery on the phone, which the company claims should provide 9 hours of talk time on a single charge. The device is running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which is layered under Coolpad’s Cool UI 8.0.
