CES 2013: Huawei showcases the 6.1-inch Ascend Mate and the 5-inch Ascend D2
After weeks of speculations and a series of leaks, Chinese manufacturer Huawei has unveiled the Ascend Mate and Ascend D2 that boast of 6.1-inch and 5-inch displays respectively.
With the Ascend Mate, Huawei plans to bridge the gap between the phablet and the traditional small (7-inch) screen tablet. In terms of its specifications, the Ascend Mate has a 6.1-inch display with a 1280×720 IPS display and has a 1.5 GHz Hi-Silicon quad-core processor under the hood combined with 2GB of RAM. It runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean straight out of the box and is powered by a 4050mAh battery. The Android OS is skinned with Huawei’s Emotion interface. It has an 8MP AF rear-facing camera with HDR and 1MP HD front-facing camera for video calls.
Huawei has also included proprietary Quick Power Control (QPC) and Automated Discontinuous Reception (ADRX) battery efficiency technology on Ascend Mate as well as the Ascend D2 ensuring users get a better standby time from their devices.
“The HuaweiI Ascend Mate breaks barriers to deliver a supercharged entertainment, communication and creative experience for all your personal and professional needs,” said Richard Yu, CEO, Huawei Consumer Business Group. “The HUAWEI Ascend Mate is an industry-leading smartphone and showcases our innovation as we continue to make great technology available to more people globally.”
The Huawei Ascend Mate will be available in China in February 2013 in crystal black and pure white colours.
The Chinese manufacturer also announced its flagship phablet, the Huawei Ascend D2. The 5-inch IPS display has a resolution of 1920x1280p and runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean straight out of the box. The OS is skinned with Huawei’s Emotion interface. In terms of specifications under the hood, the D2 has Huawei’s K3V2 1.5 GHz quad-core CPU along with 2GB of RAM. It has a whopping 13MP BSI rear-facing camera along with a 1.3MP front-facing camera for video calls. It also sports a 3000mAh battery.
Huawei is also expected to launch a 4.7-inch version of the D2 with the specifications under the hood remaining the same. That device however wasn’t on display at CES.
“The Huawei Ascend D2 has the style, power and all-round performance capabilities you would expect from a Huawei Ascend smartphone, but with a revolutionary FHD screen, unsurpassed camera quality and power saving technology to maximize your enjoyment,” said Richard Yu, CEO, Huawei Consumer Business Group. “We are excited to introduce the Huawei Ascend D2, the latest addition to our series of Ascend range of smartphones, as we continue to put great technology into the hands of more people around the world.”
The Ascend D2 will be available in China in late January.
