Bug alert: Pixel 2 XL stops rapid charging in cold temperatures
HIGHLIGHTS

Pixel 2 XL users are reporting the phone stops rapid charging when temperature falls below 20 degrees Celsius and the only way to get it to fast charge is by warming up the phone.

If you thought your Pixel 2 XL was charging slowly this winter, you weren’t wrong. If you thought your Pixel 2 XL was charging slowly this winter, you weren’t wrong. The Pixel User Community noticed a drop in mercury results in a drop in speed of charging. Pixel 2 XL users reported that every time the battery temperature was below 20 degrees Celsius, the phone would charge at around 750mA. But if the battery is around 22-23 degrees celsius, the phone would be charged at a much higher speed, 3A. Google is reportedly looking into the issue. The only solution right now is to warm up the phone before plugging in the charger. A user suggests this makes the phone charge rapidly. “If my observations are right, then your phone should also charge much faster this way. You can warm up your phone by simply putting it against a warm surface (like your hands) or use the CPU and the power of the phone (here I’ve found AR Stickers to be so computationally intensive that they can easily warm up the battery to required temperature in less than a minute),” Krzysztof Borczuch, a Pixel User Community member wrote. The culprit could be Google’s use of the USB-C Power Delivery standard instead of the more widely adopted Qualcomm’s Quick Charge technology. The charging issue adds to the list of concerns regarding Google’s flagship phone for 2017. Weeks after its launch, users started reporting screen burn-ins and muted colours in the P-OLED display followed by complaints regarding the speakers, random reboots and more. Despite its problematic nature, the Pixel 2 XL is one of the best phones to use right now, especially if you like taking photos. The Pixel 2 XL is the best camera phone and in some ways, it’s even better than the iPhone X.The Pixel User Community noticed a drop in mercury results in a drop in speed of charging.
