BlackBerry celebrates the 10th anniversary of its foray into the Indian market by slashing Z10 price for a limited period (for the next 60 days)

BlackBerry has slashed price of its Z10 smartphone for a limited period. The Z10, which launched at Rs. 43,490 last year, is now available for Rs. 17,990. BlackBerry had recently slashed the price of Z10 to Rs. 29,999 as part of a ‘limited festive offer’.

“…Customers can now purchase the BlackBerry Z10 smartphone running the latest BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.2.1 at a special price of Rs.17,990/- for a period of the next 60 days starting immediately. This special offer reiterates BlackBerry’s commitment towards the Indian market by offering attractive price points for its cutting edge BlackBerry 10 smartphones,” says the company in a release.

The Z10 isn’t the only BlackBerry phone to receive a price cut in the recent past. The BlackBerry Q10 price was slashed to Rs. 38,990 in a limited period offer in December last year. The Q5 price  was cut to Rs. 19,990 last month. It’s notable the Q10 and Q5 had launched in the Indian market with price tags of Rs. 44,990 and Rs. 24,990 respectively.

The Z10 is the first BlackBerry 10-based smartphone, featuring 4.2-inch display with 1280 x 768 resolution, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 8MP auto focus camera and 2MP front camera. The smartphone comes with an 1,800 mAh battery. To know more, read our detailed BlackBerry Z10 review.

“BlackBerry has a vast and loyal user base in India and we’re keen to provide these consumers with the unique communication experience that BlackBerry 10 offers. This commemorative offer puts the BlackBerry Z10 at Rs. 17,990/- and will ensure users are able to enjoy the cutting edge experience of a full-touch device combined with a revolutionary operating system – all at an attractive price point,” says Sunil Lalvani- Managing Director India for BlackBerry.

The latest price cut comes amid growing competition with Android smartphones in mid-range and budget segments. Companies such as Samsung and Micromax have already flooded the Indian market with a wide range of Android smartphones in each possible price category.

Moreover, BlackBerry is now focussing on its current flagship Z30 and future smartphones. The price cuts may also help clear stocks of older phones.
