BlackBerry rolls out maintenance update for OS 10.1

BlackBerry rolls out maintenance update for OS 10.1
HIGHLIGHTS

This is essentially a maintenance release for BB10.1 OS, fixing bugs and errors, but does bring in some new features as well.

BlackBerry has rolled out a Maintenance Update for the OS 10.1, which fixes some bugs and errors reported on the first version of the OS. Apart from that, this update does bring in some new features. BlackBerry says that your phone with have OS version numbers 10.1.0.4181 / 10.1.0.4537 or higher once the latest update is installed. Interesting to note that the release notes mention the Z10 and the Q10, but there is no mention of whether this update will be available on the Q5 or not. There is a keyboard enhancement that the maintenance release brings to the Q10, but we aren’t sure if the Q5 will get it or not.

The update has already started rolling out in Asia Pacific, Canada, Europe and the middle-east. The phones in Latin America are scheduled to get the update from mid-August and the schedule for the U.S. launch is tentatively slated for “End of Summer”. However, even within the regions, the rollout timelines will depend on the mobile service provider.

BlackBerry Hub and BlackBerry Balance get the update that allows for different Hub profiles for the work and personal accounts. Apart from that, new gestures now allow you to move between messages, without having to return to the inbox again. In the Q10 specifically, pressing ‘u’ on the QWERTY when inside the Hub will take you to the unread messages. ActiveSync and IMAP email users can now keep their emails on the device for an unlimited period.

While the Z10 and the Q10 are slated to get the update, no word yet on if and when the Q5 will get a similar maintenance release

The latest software update also brings in newer versions of the Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn apps. BlackBerry World gets better search and also the Wishlist app to keep a handy list of the apps that you may wish to download.

Apart from these highlights, the full details of the changes in this update can be found via the link shared below.
