BlackBerry reveals Android powered ‘Mercury’ smartphone at CES 2017, official launch at MWC 2017
Details of the TCL-made phone, including the name and price, are yet to be revealed
BlackBerry’s QWERTY sporting smartphone, codenamed ‘Mercury’ has finally been revealed at CES 2017. The TCL-made smartphone has been leaked often and the President & GM of TCL Communication in North America even teased the device on his Twitter account. However, details of the device (including the official name) are not yet known.
What we do know is that the keyboard’s space bar has a fingerprint sensor built into it. Further, the whole keyboard has a touchpad built into it, similar to what was found on the BlackBerry Passport and Priv. The Mercury also runs Android Nougat with BlackBerry own business and security focused software. Specifications as well as the price of the phone are expected to be announced at MWC, which is scheduled to be held next month. A few months back, a device tipped to be the Mercury was spotted on Geekbench. As per the listing, the phone is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC with 3GB of RAM.
After launching its first Android-powered smartphone, the Priv, BlackBerry has since launched the DTEK50 and the DTEK60. While the DTEK60 is a flagship-grade smartphone, the DTEK50 is a mid-range device.
